Bloody Battle as DGT Remain Unbeaten

Ugly scenes marred the hard fought goalless draw with Image Now on the 5th, with a DGT player allegedly cited for dangerous play.

An off the ball altercation between DGT's Tony Ennis and Image's Adam Preshe saw the Image player escorted off with a bloodied and broken nose, The incident, which was not seen by the referee, sparked a mass player brawl and was indicative of a game that the ref failed to control.

Ennis, who insists he was blatantly kicked just prior to the incident, faces serious disciplinary action from the club first and foremost, followed by the league committee and is certain to have played his last game for DGT.

All said and done, DGT kept yet another clean sheet and held a very strong and agressive Image Now at bay, who were surely still smarting from their Challenge Final defeat to DGT last season. A fantastic ten points from a posible twelve keeps DGT in the hunt with the big guns.

Extreme violent conduct is of course at odds with the DGT philosophy, but this incident is hardly without precedent. Expelling the player permanently from the club will no doubt appease the blazers at NH HQ, but it is a first offense for this player after all. Team unity is paramount and showing him the door could cause unrest in the dressing room at such a crucial part of the season, especially one that has begun in such promising fashion. The bottom line is that League can only pass judgement based on the referees report and teams are not obliged to hand out further punishments, though this is of course with a teams rights. At the end of the day, we have to ask ourselves "Did this lad deserve a slap?". Answers on a postcard.
